Cut the calories and you will lose those extra pounds. Simple, right? It should be, yet your body doesn’t seem to agree. Your stomach rumbles and eventually, despite your best intentions, you relent. So how do you prevent yourself becoming a bottomless pit for calorie laden snacks?
Brush Your Teeth
Dentists will tell you to blush and floss twice a day. As it turns out, this has more benefits than simply cleaning your pearly whites. Most people don’t feel like eating right after brushing their teeth or using mouthwash since it makes food taste bad.
By simply breathing in and out slowly and deeply, with awareness, for a minute or two, time will seem to stand still. With perseverance, using the aid of a timer if necessary, you will find you will have soothed your appetite and will feel a distinct sense of calm.
Make Protein Your First Meal of the Day
Lean protein such as egg whites, bacon (who knew, right?) or low-fat yoghurt not only keeps you fuller than other nutrients, taking more time to digest and absorb, but keeps you satisfied longest if consumed at breakfast time.
Eat More Fibre
By eating more fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, you will find yourself feeling satisfied faster since fibrous food has the most volume per calorie. You therefore end up losing weight by default.
Drink Plenty of Water
As well as keeping you hydrated, water is fantastic ways of convincing your body that you’re satisfied, reducing your appetite while consuming no calories whatsoever. It’s a fantastic solution to those peckish moments when you would otherwise be snacking.
